For the past 20 years Sir Paul Smith, the world renowned fashion designer from Nottingham UK, has been receiving an avalanche of odd and quirky unwrapped objects which have had a remarkable effect on his life, and all have been sent from a mystery person. P.S. Your Mystery Sender takes us on a magical mystery tour in and out of Sir Paul Smith's fashion factory as we discover the secrets behind his endless inspiration and worldwide success.
"The first time I went to film Paul I had just injured my leg – which made for a difficult journey for me, but he was instantly affectionate, welcoming and supportive. So much so that he said he would do another interview."
"I knew that he was the first person in the office every day - before the cleaners even - and so as my next interview was his first appointment of the day, I asked for an extra half an hour to film him riding on his bike."
"He said yes, and it was the best move I made. He was totally invigorated by the exercise and his love for cycling and cameras (including the one I mounted on his handlebars) meant he was a very happy subject."
Ben Wigley is an independent filmmaker and editor. He runs a production company, artdocs, which specialises in documentary films about artists and their work whilst also having an experimental approach to the filmmaking process.
Ben's debut feature length documentary, Paa Joe & The Lion, is currently in production and raising funds through Kickstarter. Coincidentally, it was Paul Smith's love of odd and quirky objects that lead Ben to Paa Joe as his next subject, when Paul Smith blogged about the unusual coffins being made by this master craftsmen. Even in documentary film, things have a tendency to come full circle.
